Hacking your Stress Response

The title of the book is Hacking Your Stress Response. The author is Mel Robbins. This book is a self-help book. It talks about stress and how people can manage it. I chose this book because stress is a common problem for students. As a university student, I sometimes feel stressed because of assignments and exams. I wanted to learn how to stay calm and think clearly.

Content in General

This book explains what stress is and how it affects our minds and bodies. The author says that stress is a normal response when we face problems or difficult situations. However, many people become more stressed because they focus too much on things they cannot control.

The main idea of this book is the "Let Them Theory." The author tells readers to accept other people's actions and not worry too much about them. Instead, readers should focus on themselves and their own choices. The book teaches people how to stay calm and feel more in control of their lives.

Detailed Content of One Selected Chapter

The chapter I chose is Hacking Your Stress Response. In this chapter, Mel Robbins explains how to reduce stress using two simple phrases: "Let Them" and "Let Me."

First, the author explains that stress is a natural reaction. Sometimes people feel angry, worried, or upset because of what other people do. The author says that when this happens, we should say "Let Them." This means we accept that we cannot control other people's actions.

After that, we should say "Let Me." This helps us focus on ourselves. The author suggests taking a deep breath and staying calm. Deep breathing can help the body relax and reduce stress.

I think this chapter is interesting because the advice is simple and easy to follow. Everyone can use this method in daily life. It can help students, workers, and other people deal with stress in a better way.

What I Learned from the Book?

I learned that I do not need to react to everything around me. Some things are outside my control, and that is okay. The book teaches me to stay calm and focus on what I can do.

As a university student, this lesson is useful for me. Sometimes I feel stressed because of homework, presentations, and exams. After reading this chapter, I understand that I should not worry too much about things I cannot change.

I also learned some new words and expressions about stress, emotions, and self-control. These words can help me improve my English vocabulary.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Hacking Your Stress Response is a useful and interesting book. The book gives simple advice about stress management. One strength of the book is that the ideas are easy to understand and use. However, some readers may want more examples. I recommend this book to students and young people who want to manage stress better. Overall, this book gives a positive message and helpful lessons for daily life.

NO ONE CAN CHANGE A PERSON'S FATE EXCEPT THAT PERSON THEMSELVES

This book written by J.I. Michell Suharli

In the book, there is a text containing the sentence "No one can change a person's fate except that person themselves." The text in the image explains the importance of being proactive in life. Proactive people are those who recognize their ability to determine and change their future.

They believe that success, happiness, and life goals can be achieved through their own efforts, actions, and decisions. In psychology, this attitude is called a focus of internal control, which is the belief that a person's life is determined more by themselves than by circumstances or other people. Therefore, proactive people usually have clear life goals, take responsibility for their actions, and continuously strive to improve themselves to achieve the best results.

The lesson to be learned from this text is that everyone must take responsibility for their own life and not always blame circumstances when facing failure. Success does not come instantly; it requires hard work, discipline, and a passion for continuous learning. Furthermore, we are taught to have clear life goals so we can determine the right steps to achieve our goals. This text reminds us that life change can only occur through effort and action, as no one else can change our destiny except ourselves.

Book Review

"Keunggulan Para Introvert" is a 144-page book by Sabrina Osaka. The author presents the content in a light, simple, and easy-to-understand language, so readers won't feel like they're reading a complex theory.

One of the most interesting chapters in the book is Chapter 2, which discusses "Introverts Are Often Misunderstood." This perception is often present in everyday life, with introverts labeled as awkward, loners, and those who hate crowds and crowds, often labeled "ansos" (anti-social). However, few people realize that being an introvert isn't a weakness, but rather a strength that can be developed.

Many people judge someone solely by their outward appearance. Talkative people are perceived as friendly, while quiet people are often misunderstood. From this, I learned that being an introvert isn't a weakness, but rather a part of one's personality.

Furthermore, this chapter also taught me not to label others easily. Introverts can still socialize well, but they simply feel more comfortable in quiet environments and more meaningful relationships.

There are many misconceptions about introverts. However, you simply need to prove these myths WRONG.

The bottom line is that as an introvert, you should remain confidently yourself. There's no need to pretend to be someone else just for recognition.

ADVENTURE

This book is a classic work by Miguel de Cervantes that is still relevant today.

The story follows the journey of Don Quixote, a man who reads too many stories about knights, so he believes that he is a real knight.

What makes this book interesting is the character of Don Quixote. He is idealistic, full of dreams, but also a little strange. He does not see the world as it really is—windmills look like giants, and inns look like castles. This is what makes the story unique and funny.
This story by Miguel de Cervantes is actually very close to real life, even though it looks like a strange story about an imaginary knight.

In real life, many people are like Don Quixote—they have big dreams, strong ideals, and want to make the world better. For example, someone who wants to change their surroundings, help others, or follow big dreams even when other people think it is impossible. From this, we can learn about the courage to dream and act.
But on the other hand, Don Quixote also teaches us that if we are too lost in imagination, we can lose direction. In real life, this can happen when someone hopes too much without seeing the real situation, so their decisions are not right. This means we need to balance dreams with reality.

The Dark Side of the Light Chasers “That Is Me"

Book Identity

The book I review is The Dark Side of the Light Chasers written by Debbie Ford, published by Riverhead Books in 1998. This book belongs to the non-fiction / self-help / psychology genre because it discusses self-awareness, emotional healing, and personal growth. The book has around 220 pages, depending on the edition. I chose this book because it explores how people often reject hidden parts of themselves and how accepting those parts can lead to personal transformation.

Book Content in General

In general, this book discusses the concept of the shadow self, which refers to aspects of personality that people deny, hide, or project onto others. Debbie Ford argues that many emotional struggles happen because people reject traits they consider negative, such as selfishness, jealousy, anger, or dishonesty.

The central message of the book is that wholeness comes through self-acceptance. Rather than separating ourselves into good and bad sides, Ford explains that every person has opposite qualities within them. Through stories and examples, she shows that what we judge in others often reflects something unresolved in ourselves. The book encourages readers to stop blaming others and begin understanding themselves more honestly.

Detailed Content of One Selected Chapter

The chapter I chose is Chapter 6, “That Is Me.” This chapter focuses on the importance of acknowledging the qualities in ourselves that we usually deny. Ford explains that recognizing a trait does not mean we approve of it, but simply admit that it exists as part of our human nature.

At the beginning of the chapter, Ford suggests asking ourselves important questions: Have I shown this behavior before? Am I showing it now? Could I show it in certain situations? If the answer is yes, then the trait exists within us. This challenges the ego that often says, “That is not me,” and replaces it with the attitude, “That is me.”

One important example in this chapter is Bill, a father who was angry because he believed his son was dishonest. Bill insisted he had never lied, but during discussion it became clear he also had moments of dishonesty, although he refused to admit it. This story shows how difficult self-recognition can be when ego becomes defensive.

Another powerful example is Hank, who constantly complained that his girlfriend was always late. During the seminar, however, he realized that he too often arrived late and made others wait. At first he denied it, but eventually he accepted this hidden aspect of himself. After acknowledging it, he became less frustrated and gained a new perspective.

This chapter is meaningful because it explains that people often act as mirrors, reflecting parts of ourselves we have not accepted. I find this chapter important because it teaches that self-acknowledgment is the beginning of emotional freedom and personal change.

What I Learned from the Book

From this book, I learned that what irritates us in other people may reveal something unresolved within ourselves. This idea gave me a new perspective about human behavior and self-improvement.

One moral value I learned is humility. It is easy to judge others while ignoring our own weaknesses. I also learned the value of compassion, because accepting our imperfections can help us become more understanding toward others.

As a university student, this book is relevant because it helps develop self-awareness in relationships and daily life. As a future English teacher, it is also meaningful because teaching requires patience, empathy, and understanding people. In addition, I learned useful vocabulary such as projection, denial, self-awareness, and compassion.

Personally, this book encouraged me to reflect more honestly on myself and be more open to criticism. It taught me that personal growth does not begin with perfection, but with acceptance.

Conclusion

Overall, The Dark Side of the Light Chasers is an inspiring and thought-provoking book. Chapter 6, “That Is Me,” is especially meaningful because it teaches that accepting denied parts of ourselves is necessary for becoming whole. The strengths of the book are its deep message, relatable examples, and practical lessons. Although some ideas may feel philosophical, the book is still very valuable. I highly recommend it for students, teachers, and anyone interested in self-development.

Author’s name: Brian Tracy
Publisher: Vanguard Press (A Member of the Perseus Books Group)

This book was chosen because it directly addresses how self-discipline is the foundation of all success, with a strong focus on practical strategies that can be applied in everyday life and career.

Book Content in General

The central idea of the book is that self-discipline is the single most important quality for achieving any goal—whether personal, professional, financial, or relational. The book rejects all excuses and emphasizes personal responsibility as the starting point for excellence.

There are no fictional characters or plot; instead, Tracy uses real-world examples, research, and step-by-step methods drawn from his own experiences and studies of successful people. The main theme is clear: “No Excuses!” Self-discipline is the key that unlocks every door to a better life. The book is structured into three parts—personal success, business and finances, and the good life—making it a comprehensive guide for anyone who wants to stop procrastinating and start achieving.

Detailed Content of One Selected Chapter

 Self-Discipline and Leadership
In this chapter explains how self-discipline is the essential bridge that takes a person from being an ordinary employee to becoming an effective leader. Tracy outlines the Four Stages of Development in a business career: (1) employee, (2) supervisor, (3) manager, and (4) leader. At the leadership level, the focus shifts from “how” to do the work to deciding “what” needs to be done and taking full responsibility for results.

Andai kamu tahu,
kamu seindah matahari pagi
yang muncul dengan tenang
di ufuk timur yang sunyi.

Ia tak pernah bercerita pada senja,
betapa hangat cahayanya menyentuh
dunia betapa ia memberi hidup tanpa suara,
dan tetap bersinar tanpa meminta pujian

Begitu pun kamu,
hadirmu mungkin terasa biasa,
tidak selalu diperhatikan,
namun tetap memberi arti.

Kamu tidak perlu bersinar terlalu terang,
atau mencoba terlih  sempurna,
cukup hadir dan menjadi  dirimu,
itu sudah lebih dari cukup.

Untukmu yang Sibuk Mengejar Langit

        Untukmu yang Sibuk Mengejar Langit

Wahai dreamer, Ketahuilah...........

Aku suka caramu serius
menatap masa depan seolah itu janji yang harus kamu tepati sendiri

Aku suka diammu
seolah kamu benar-benar tak menghiraukan hiruk pikuk dunia

Establishing Proper Priorities

From this book especially in chapter 4, the author explains that good time management means choosing the right priorities. Brian Tracy says that not all tasks are important. So, we must know which tasks are important and which are not. The main idea is to use our time and energy for activities that give the best results in our life and work.

One important idea in this chapter is “majoring in minors.” It means people are often busy with small and less important things. The author says many people look busy, but they are not effective because they do not do important tasks. So, we need to choose tasks based on their value and results.

This chapter also talks about self-discipline. We should do important tasks first, even if they are difficult or not fun. Many people like to do easy tasks and delay important ones (procrastination). The author says we must train ourselves to focus on important tasks first.
This chapter is interesting and useful because it shows simple ways to be more effective, not just busy. It is helpful for students and workers. It can help us be more productive and reach our goals faster. In general, this chapter teaches that success depends on choosing the right tasks first.

Reflection:

After reading this book, I realize that my main problem is poor time management. I often spend too much time on unimportant things like using my phone or delaying tasks. This makes me feel stressed and less productive.
I want to change by focusing on my priorities and doing important tasks first. This is important because it can help me be more productive and reach my goals faster.
To improve, I will make a daily plan, reduce distractions, and start my tasks on time. I believe that with practice, I can manage my time better and become more responsible.

The Power of Habit: 7 Steps to Successful Habits

Book Identity

The book I reviewed is The Power of Habit: 7 Steps to Successful Habits by Brian Tracy. It was published by Brian Tracy International in 2017. This book belongs to the self-help or personal development genre. It talks about how habits affect our success and daily life.
I chose this book because it discusses habits, discipline, and goal setting, which are very important for students. As a university student, I think building good habits is necessary to achieve success in both study and life.

Book Content in General

In general, this book explains that most of our actions come from habits. Brian Tracy says that successful people are not always smarter or more talented, but they have better habits. Success comes from doing positive actions again and again.
The book explains seven simple steps to build good habits. First, we need to decide clearly what habit we want. Second, we should not make excuses at the beginning. Third, telling others can help us stay committed. Fourth, we should imagine ourselves doing the habit. Fifth, using positive words or affirmations can help. Sixth, we must keep trying until the habit becomes natural. Last, we should reward ourselves for progress.
The book also talks about important habits like self-discipline, being positive, setting goals, and learning continuously. The main idea is simple: if we change our habits, we can change our life.

Detailed Content of One Selected Chapter

In this review, I focus on the part about self-discipline. This is explained as the most important habit for success. Brian Tracy says that self-discipline means doing what we need to do, even when we do not feel like doing it.
He also explains something called the “Law of Control.” It means people feel happier when they feel in control of their life. When we control our actions and take responsibility, we become more confident.
This part is very important because many students often feel lazy or distracted. Sometimes we delay our work. This chapter shows that discipline is not about forcing ourselves in a negative way, but about training ourselves to follow our goals instead of our feelings.
What I Learned from the Book
From this book, I learned that habits are more important than motivation. Motivation can come and go, but habits stay. So, it is better to build good habits than wait until we feel motivated.
I also learned that writing goals every day can help us achieve them. This idea motivates me to start writing my daily goals.
Another thing I learned is the importance of continuous learning. As an English Education student, I need to read, practice, and learn regularly to improve my skills.
I also learned that the people around us can influence us. If we spend time with positive people, we will be more motivated and focused.

Conclusion

Overall, The Power of Habit: 7 Steps to Successful Habits is a useful and inspiring book. It is easy to understand and gives clear steps that we can follow. However, some parts are a bit repetitive, and the examples are not very detailed.
Even so, I recommend this book to students and young people who want to improve their habits and become more disciplined. This book teaches us that success depends on what we do every day, not only on talent or luck.

PERSON VALUES

"You must sit and think critically about yourself and about what you've chosen to care about, not through words, but through deeds".

This statement reminds me to pause and reflect on myselves and the things i truly consider important in life. My goals in life cannot simply be expressed through words but must be demonstrated through concrete actions. A person's values, concerns, and principles become more meaningful when they are embodied in their daily lives.

And finally, I have chosen the English Department at UNIKA St. Paulus Ruteng as my life's goal: to be best an English teacher in the future. Of course, achieving this goal requires more than empty words, but also concrete actions. Hard work, responsibility, tenacity, and never giving up are essential to becoming a successful person. This means not only being a good teacher but also being responsible for one's duties.

So, Keep Going

Book Review

Book Identity

The book I reviewed is "Find Your Balance Point" by Brian Tracy and Christina Stein. It was published by Berrett - Koehler 2015. The book has about 129 pages. It is a non-fiction and self-development book. Based from the title of this book, "Find Your Balance Point" is interesting because it is simple and easy to understand. The word “find” makes readers feel that they can look for and reach balance in their lives. The phrase “balance point” also makes people curious. It is connected to daily life, because many people feel their life is not balanced.

Book Content in General

In general, this book explains how to have a balanced and successful life. The main idea is that success is not only about working hard. We also need to manage different parts of our life. Many people feel tired because they focus too much on work and forget about health, family, and personal growth.
This book is not a story. It gives ideas and simple strategies. The main topic is time management and life balance. The authors explain about the “balance point.” It means the best condition when all parts of life work well together. The main message is that balance does not come by itself. We must plan and make good choices.

Detailed Content of One Selected Chapter

I choose Chapter 6 about setting priorities. In this chapter, the authors say that many people feel stressed because they try to do too many things. They do not know what is most important.
The authors give simple steps. First, we should write our goals in different areas, like career, family, health, and self-development. Then, we choose which goals are more important. The chapter also says that we must say “no” to some activities. If we say “yes” to unimportant things, we lose time for important things. This chapter is interesting because it gives clear advice that we can use in daily life.

What I Learned from the Book

From this book, I learned that balance is a choice. Before, I thought balance would come when life was not busy. Now I know that life is always busy. So, we must manage our time well.
I learned about responsibility and discipline. The book changed my idea about success. Being busy does not always mean being productive. As a university student and future English teacher, this book is very useful. In the future, I will have many tasks. I need good time management to avoid stress. I also learned new words like “priorities,” “discipline,” “productivity,” and “long-term goals.”

Conclusion

So, Find Your Balance Point is a good and useful book. The ideas are clear and easy to understand. The examples are simple and real. However, some parts are a little repetitive. I recommend this book to students, young workers, and teachers. It is good for people who want to improve their life balance and time management.
